Policing & Community Safety

For many people, the first point of contact with the criminal justice system is with law enforcement. It is important that police officers have the tools to safely and humanely handle the needs of community members, while still being held accountable for their actions. Many residents experience pain, frustration, and shared outrage from the over-enforcement of drug and traffic laws, and from policies that disproportionately impact people of color. Restoring trust between communities and law enforcement is critical in ensuring that all Texas residents – as well as those tasked with protecting and serving them – can live in stable, thriving neighborhoods without violence.
